A fictionalized history of London: Edward Rutherfurd’s London novel

Marc Bordier by Marc Bordier /

Last week, I started reading Edward Rutherfurd’s Londonnovel, a 1,300-page history of London through the ages told in the form of multiple short stories featuring members of the same family, from Roman times to the twentieth century. So far, I have only read the first three chapters, but I am already hooked. Fiction has always been my favorite way of engaging with history, and I have learnt more about French history by reading Zola, Balzac or Hugo than by reading actual history books. I will soon be writing a post on Rutherford’s book on this blog.
